accessdb(8sql)
Name
accessdb − authorize access to a database and modify database locations, extensions, and user authorization.
Syntax
accessdb
Description
The accessdb utility allows ULTRIX/SQL superusers to list and modify information about a database, the locationnames for the database that are known to the system, the extension locations allowed for databases, and user authorization. The accessdb utility is a full-screen, forms-based, menu-driven utility.
When you invoke accessdb, it displays a main menu of operations. When you select an operation from the main menu, either another menu appropriate for the selected operation appears, or a form with a submenu appears. To continue operation using a form, you fill in the form or select an item from the submenu. The Quit operation on a menu exits the utility and returns you to the shell. The End operation on a submenu returns you to the main menu. Other operations may also return you to the main menu when the initiated task has been completed. All menus within accessdb contain a Help operation that provides a brief description of each item on the current menu and tells you how to enter data through the form.
Restrictions
The accessdb utility has a forms-based interface and must be run either on a supported video terminal or in a workstation window emulating a supported terminal. The terminal type is made known to ULTRIX/SQL through the environmental variable TERM or TERM_INGRES, which must be set to one of the terminal types defined in the /etc/termcap or $II_SYSTEM/sql/files/termcap file. See the ULTRIX/SQL Reference Manual for information about setting up your terminal for use with ULTRIX/SQL forms-based utilities.
The accessdb utility can be used only by the ULTRIX/SQL System Administrator or an ULTRIX/SQL superuser. Although other ULTRIX/SQL users cannot use accessdb to read and modify database information, they can obtain similar information (read-only) through the catalogdb command.
