REXD(8C) COMMAND REFERENCE REXD(8C)

NAME
     rexd, rpc.rexd - RPC-based remote execution server

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/etc/rpc.rexd

DESCRIPTION
The program rexd is the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) server
for remote program execution; this daemon is started by
inetd(8N) whenever a remote execution request is made if the
following line is placed in /etc/inetd.conf:

          rpc tcp /usr/etc/rpc.rexd 100017 1

For noninteractive programs, standard file descriptors are
connected directly to TCP (Transport Control Protocol)
     connections. Interactive programs involve pseudo-terminals,
similar to the login sessions provided by rlogin(1). This
daemon may use the NFS to mount file systems specified in
the remote execution request; (rexd is the server for
     on(1C).

FILES
/dev/ttypn (where n is the tty number) pseudo-
                         terminals used for interactive mode

     /etc/passwd authorized users

DIAGNOSTICS
Diagnostic messages are normally printed on the console and
     are returned to the requestor.
