LPF_SJ549YMC(8)  —  NEWS-OS Programmer’s Manual

NAME

lpf_sj549ymc, lpf_sj549ymck, lpf_sj549blck − text print filters for NWP-549

SYNOPSIS

/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549ymc
/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549ymck
/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549blck

DESCRIPTION

lpf_sj549ymc, lpf_sj549ymck and lpf_sj549blck are lpr(1) output filters for outputting data input as text data to the NWP-549 (color printer).
The three filters correspond to the different types of color ribbons which can be mounted in the NWP-549 (3-color, 4-color and monochrome ink sheet). Normally, only one NWP-549 entry is left in the file /etc/printcap (default colorprinter_name) and the other two are commented out (by typing a # at the beginning of the line). When using a remote printer, only one NWP-549 entry should be left in the /etc/printcap printer server machine file.

EXAMPLES

To use these files, they must be recorded in the file /etc/printcap.
The default setting is:

:if=/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549{ymc,ymck,blck}: To execute it, the normal method of using lpr(1) should be employed:

lpr −Pcolorprinter_name textdata

FILE

/etc/printcapDatabase of printer characteristics
/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549ymc3-color ink sheet output filter
/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549ymck4-color ink sheet output filter
/usr/sony/lib/lpf_sj549blckMonochrome ink sheet output filter

LIMITATIONS

Emphasis characters are not supported at present.  The character pitch and vertical line spacing on a NWP-549 color printer (i.e. printing with 3-color or 4-color ink sheet on A4 paper) are narrower than ones on laser printer because the printing area for a color printer is smaller than one for a laser printer.
However, by changing the paper size entry in these filters (shell script) as follows:

PAPER=A4L you can obtain the same output on A4L as one printed on a laser printer.  To make a KANJI character output, Sony-format Outline font (Available in NWF-605, NWF-629, NWF-631 − 636C etc.) is required.
