LABELIT(1M) — Silicon Graphics
NAME
labelit − label a file system
SYNOPSIS
/etc/labelit special [ fsname volume [ −n ] ]
DESCRIPTION
labelit can be used to provide initial labels for unmounted disk or tape file systems. The special argument should be the physical disk partition or tape (e.g.: /dev/rmd0, /dev/rmt1, etc.). The fsname argument is the mounted name (e.g.: root, usr, etc.) of the file system being labeled. The volume argument names the physical volume name. Bell file systems and Extent file systems are both supported (see fs(4)). With the optional arguments omitted, labelit prints current label values. The −n option provides for initial labeling of new tapes and destroys the previous contents of the tape.
EXAMPLE
labelit /dev/rmt1 oldsys save
relabels the file system mounted on /dev/rmt1 with a new fsname of oldsys and a new volname of save.
