loop − software loopback interface

SYNOPSIS

pseudo-device loop

DESCRIPTION

loop is a software loopback mechanism which may be used for performance analysis, software testing, and/or local communication.  This interface is Internet addressable as network 127 (decimal).  The local host is host 0. 

DIAGNOSTICS

The interface received a message with improperly formatted addresses; the packet was dropped.
