  NAME

namex - Updates the hosts file

  SYNOPSIS

    /usr/ip32/inc/namex [-v] [-u] [-h hostsfile] [-d delay]

  FLAGS

-v Gives informational messages on stderr.

-u Tells namex to run unconditionally.

-h hostfile Specifies an alternate hosts file.

-d delay Specifies the amount of delay (in seconds) before processing
                  starts.

  DESCRIPTION

The namex command reads the hosts file (/etc/hosts) and delimits the
changed area of the hosts file by inserting comments. Added or changed
entries in the hosts file should not be entered in the area delimited by
comments because they will be deleted the next time the namex command is
executed. The namex command never overrides a hosts file or clearinghouse
definition. The -v flag issues warnings about conflicts. Comments in the
hosts file will also note conflicts in the definitions.

The namex command creates a timestamp file called
/usr/lib/nodes/namex.stamp. Each time the namex command is executed, it
checks to see whether the clearinghouse or the hosts file is newer than
the timestamp. If the timestamp is newer, no processing occurs. However,
if the -d flag is specified, this check is run before the delay is taken.
The namex command -u flag overrides this feature.

The namex.stamp file is also used by the namex command as a lock so that
only one copy of the namex command runs at a time.

  EXAMPLES

To update the /etc/hosts file unconditionally after a delay of one minute,
    enter:

    /usr/ip32/namex -u -d 60

    /usr/lib/nodes/namex.stamp
           Timestamp file for namex.

  NOTES

Read and write permissions are required to access the hosts file, the
clearinghouse database, and the namex.stamp file.

The namex command is run automatically when the Internet address of the
    system is changed with chginet.

  DIAGNOSTICS

namex: cannot get write access to /usr/lib/nodes/namex.stamp
The namex command generates this message if namex is run by anyone
           other than a superuser.

Other messages are displayed if system errors are encountered.

  EXIT VALUES

The namex command exits with a value of 0 upon successful completion or if
another namex command is already running. If an error occurs, namex will
    exit with a nonzero value.
