SYNC(1M)  —  HP-UX

NAME

sync − update the super block

SYNOPSIS

sync

DESCRIPTION

Sync executes the sync(2) system call.  If the system is to be stopped, the sync command must be called to insure file system integrity.  It will flush all previously unwritten system buffers out to disk, thus assuring that all file modifications up to that point will be saved.  See sync(2) for details.

DEPENDENCIES

Series 300 Diskless
The −l option is also available to execute the lsync(2) system call.  If the machine is a cluster node, sync −l causes only the local node to be synced, while sync causes the entire cluster to be synced.

AUTHOR

Sync was developed by AT&T and HP.
