syscon(7) DG/UX 5.4.2 syscon(7)

NAME
syscon, console, systty - DG/UX operating system console pseudo-
       device

DESCRIPTION
The DG/UX system uses the notion of an "operating system console,"
which is the terminal on which initial system administration is
performed and to which various messages from the kernel are written.
By necessity, this terminal is also the terminal (physical system
console) used by the system administrator to communicate with the
processor when the operating system is not running.

The actual device which provides the physical system console
interface depends on the hardware configuration of the system.
However, regardless of the actual system configuration, the DG/UX
operating system console is accessible only through the syscon
pseudo-device interface, using the file node /dev/syscon. This
device provides the standard DG/UX terminal interfaces (termio(7)),
except that changes to hardware settings such as baud rate, stop
bits, and parity have no effect.

NOTE: The terminal type of the graphics console on AViiON
workstations is avx300, not vt100. You must set the
environment variable TERM to avx300 when using the man(1)
               command.
