NAME
format − physically format a floppy disk
SYNOPSIS
/usr/amiga/bin/format [-r] [-b] [:N|devicename]
DESCRIPTION
format physically formats an amiga floppy disk.
A floppy disk must be formatted before any data may be placed on the disk.
The process of formatting a disk destroys any previous data that was on the disk.
OPTIONS
-r Ask for another disk after formatting this disk. This option cannot be used with the −b option.
-b (Batch mode). Don’t wait for the user to press return before formatting the disk.
If a device name (or a shorthand version of the device name is given with ‘:DEVNUM’) that that device will be used for formatting. The default device is /dev/rdsk/fd0f whose shorthand is ‘:0’ and is the first floppy disk.
NOTES
This command destroys any data that might be on the disk.
