NAME

xstart − start X server xstartx [ [ client ] options ... ] [ −− [ server ] options ... ]

DESCRIPTION

NOTE: The xstart script is a sample designed as a base for customization. Site administrators are urged to customize it for their site, and to update this manual page when they do. 

The startx script is a front end to xinit that provides a somewhat nicer user interface for running a single session of the X Window System.  It is typically run with no arguments. 

The client envolkes xinit with /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession and customized server options as arguments. 

Xdm has become the preferred method of starting X, this script is supplied to accomadate users that have become familar with it.
