NAME

halt − stop the processor

USAGE

/etc/halt [ −n ] [ −q ] [ −y ]

DESCRIPTION

The halt command writes out cached pages to the disks and then stops the processor.  The machine does not reboot. 

OPTIONS

−n Prevent the sync before stopping. 

−q Cause a quick halt, without attempting a graceful shutdown. 

−y Halt the system from a dialup.
